Should I have reacted differently, and should I expect trouble?

Hi, I am 3 years into highschool, and just before I walked past an old bully of mine who I have not saw in over three years. He bullied me alot because he, and everyone else assumed I was gay. Anyway I walked past him and he looked at me, smiled and winked at me in a homosexual fashion. This released alot of anger in me, but I am able to control my anger, but I said 'fuhking tw.at' without realising, then walked off. Two friends joined him and started shouting my name and walking after me. They stopped in the end. Should I be cautious of any trouble? Was it wrong of me to do it? asI didnt mean to, ? Thanks
