Should i take the ball out of her arms when asleep?

we just had our dog 'put to sleep'. we went to the veterinarian expecting help for his illness but i guess it was the best decision from the doctor. he brought him home from a shelter..he was 2 years old..we have been crying all afternoon..and were having crying jags when reflecting. our dog had an old yellow squeaky ball in bad shape and he loved this ball. my mother keeps squeaking the ball and now is resting with the ball in her arms. i removed all the toys and dog dishes. removed the hanging leads and collar.we loved this quirky chow..i don't want her having continuous bouts with crying..its hard for me also.advise please.
