My guinea pig ate a plastic container...what should i do?

so i left a plastic container in my guinea pigs cage and he ate some of it. now he wont squeak as loud he just squeaks in a low noise, not as high pitched and every time he tries too squeak loud he ends up coughing. should i be worried? what should i do? please help!!!!
